Travelling Sketchbooks – Israel and the West Bank image

One year ago I left Berlin to travel 5 weeks in Israel and the West Bank. I did the trip alone, so I was able to draw as much as I wanted. It is nice to see how different cultures “react” to someone drawing. In the West Bank, some people would stand quietly behind me watching. Sometimes so quitely that I once turned around to find a group of around 10 men had gathered behind me.  With a small crowd looking over my shoulder it was hard to stay focused. “When Paul came over the Sea” at Rotterdam Film Festival image

Two weeks ago “When Paul came over the Sea” had its International Premiere at Rotterdam Film Festival. It felt great to finally see my illustrations on the big screen! The cinema was full and there was some very positive feedback from the public. Between screenings I had some time to explore Rotterdam. The beautiful modern architecture really impressed me but what made it into my sketch book was a tree.
